Impact of Internet of Things (IoT) on Supply Chain Management and Its Benefits in Tourism Industry
Asif, S., Saini, N., Singh, K., & Yadav, S.
Connected devices are reshaping how industries link physical objects to digital systems, and tourism is no exception. This paper examines what the Internet of Things means for supply chain management in the tourism industry, where the link between connected technology and travel services has become almost impossible to separate as the sector modernises.
Taking a descriptive-cum-experimental approach, the study systematically reviews the meaning, concepts, applications, benefits, challenges, and definitions of the technology as they relate to supply chains in tourism. Rather than reporting a single experiment, it assembles and organises existing understanding of how billions of intelligently communicating devices extend the boundaries of the physical world by merging real and virtual entities into one connected environment.
From this synthesis the paper draws recommendations and sets out directions for future research and industry practice. Its contribution is to map the territory where the Internet of Things and tourism supply chains meet, giving operators and researchers a structured starting point for deploying connected technologies across the sector.
Connected devices are reshaping tourism supply chains, and this paper reviews how the Internet of Things affects the sector. Taking a descriptive-cum-experimental approach to its definitions, benefits, challenges, and applications, it synthesises existing understanding rather than testing one system, and closes with recommendations and directions for future research and industry practice.
- Taking a descriptive-cum-experimental approach, the paper systematically reviews the meaning, concepts, applications, benefits, challenges, and definitions of the Internet of Things as they relate to tourism supply chains.
- It frames the technology as part of a future internet built from billions of intelligently communicating devices, extending the boundaries of the physical world by merging real and virtual entities.
- The study argues that tourism and the Internet of Things can no longer be treated as separate, given the rapid pace of technological change now reshaping how the whole sector operates.
- Drawing the review together, the paper offers recommendations and sets out directions for future research and industry practice in applying the technology to tourism supply chain management.
